Make Yourself Uncomfortable

We all like to be comfortable. From the clothes we wear to the route we take to work every day. We like things to be the same and easy, every hour of every day. With that being said, I’d like to pose a challenge to you today. Try and make yourself uncomfortable.

If you know me at all, you probably think it’s impossible to make me uncomfortable. You’d be mostly right with that assumption but I do still get uncomfortable on occasion. I’ll admit, it took a lot of practice to get to this point of comfortability (might not be a word). I started my life with a mother that was built to embarrass us. I didn’t like it at the time but I’m thankful for it now, she blessed me with the weird nerves I have today. From yelling at me across the grocery store to making everyone uncomfortable in the Denver airport, she seasoned me pretty well. I will admit, my mother still does this to me and but I actually laugh now.

Laughter is very important in getting us through uncomfortable situations. When we can laugh about something that we’d usually be nervous or cry about, we are in the driver’s seat of that situation and in complete control of our feelings (which is the only thing we can control).

Since I can remember I’ve been trying to raise the bar on any fears that I have. From playing music in public, to writing a blog, to speaking to high school students (some of the most honest people on the planet). I’ll try anything to keep moving that bar up. The beauty is in accomplishing one of these tasks, it makes everything below it a total breeze.

I believe this is one way that we grow and become nearly invincible to hardship.

Again, as with most topics I write about in my blogs, this is still something I’m working on as well. Currently I’m trying to get over any weird feelings with video in business. It’s super awkward filming yourself and talking about something. When you see me out there you will know that I’ve overcome this fear and I’m ready for the next one.

If you need encouragement or anything, let me know, I’d be happy to chat!

I encourage everyone to get into reading, it can be life changing. Here is a small reading list of some that I’ve enjoyed to get you started: https://www.promotionsguy.com/ryan-s-favorite-reads

I’m writing tips each week for people aspiring to improve. These are not industry related but they generally have something to do with growing as a person or growing a business. My intention is to help others grow while growing myself. My book recommendation this week is “Shaken” by Tim Tebow.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss something, feel free to shoot me an email at ryan@promotionsguy.com.
