Choosing the Right Process for your Apparel

Updated: Aug 6, 2019

When it comes to choosing the right process for your custom promotional products, we understand that the options may be overwhelming. To help you figure out what you need to create your best branded products, we’ve developed a guide to the services we provide here at Promotions Guy.

Keep reading to learn about the services we offer, as well as which one is best for your order.

Screen Printing

Screen printing is our most popular design printing service. It provides the style of graphic tee typically sold in retail stores. The screen printing process allows us to print clear and vibrant designs at a cost effective price.

The Process:

Screen printing is done by pushing ink through a mesh stencil onto fabric. Each stencil is custom made for each design order. For multi-colored designs, different inks are layered on top of each other to create cohesive and vibrant images. The garments are then run through a dryer to cure the ink onto the fabric.

Fabrics:

Screen printing is extremely versatile when it comes to fabric options. While we most commonly print onto cotton and cotton blend garments, screen printing can be used with a variety of fabrics. Just let us know what you have in mind!

Quantity:

The screen printing process is optimal for bulk orders. As the majority of the time and labor is in the setup, printing mass quantities can actually be done quite quickly. At Promotions Guy, we require a minimum purchase of 24 items if you choose our screen printing option. After that, the sky’s the limit!

Pricing:

The pricing for screen printing is affected by two things: where you want your design printed and how many colors you want to use. For example, the most basic option would include a design printed onto one location and in one color.

Timing:

We recommend allowing 2-3 weeks for screen printing orders. Turn around times may differ based on the order quantity.

Sublimation

Sublimation is our second most popular printing service. Whereas with screen printing, the design feels slightly different from the fabric it sits on top of, sublimation integrates your design into the fibers of the fabric itself! This allows for an all-over comfortable feel, even in the areas where the design is printed.

The Process:

The product design is first printed onto sublimation transfer paper using sublimation ink. That paper is then placed on top of the product material and both are pressed together in a heat press. The high temperatures (350ºF- 400ºF) allow the ink to permeate the material’s fibers through a process called sublimation.

Fabrics:

Due to the high heat transfer of the process, sublimation can only be done on polyester and polyester blend shirts. It also requires a light colored base, like white or silver.

Quantity:

Sublimated shirts are best for small to medium sized orders.

Pricing:

Sublimated shirts are priced based on the type of shirt you choose. For example, our sublimated t-shirts are priced at $13/shirt for a front and back design and our long sleeved shirts are priced at $15 for a front and back design.

Timing:

Sublimation is quick! We can get an order back to you in about 5-6 business days.

Heat Transfer

The Process:

Heat transfer printing is the process of applying a design to fabric by using a heat-sensitive adhesive. We first print your design using heat transferable paper and then apply it to the fabric by pressing them together in a heat press. The heat activates the adhesive on the printed design and adheres it to the fabric. The end result is an awesome printed garment!

Fabrics:

Heat transfers can be applied to almost any fabric!

Quantity:

Heat transfers are best for small to medium sized orders.

Timing:

We ask that you allow 2 weeks for heat transfer orders. Turn around times may differ based on order quantity.

Embroidery

Embroidery allows you to display your logo or design on a wide variety of products. Whether it’s a hat, tote bag or polo shirt, embroidery is a long-lasting way to promote your brand.

The Process:

To create custom embroidery, we take your design and format it for our embroidery machine. The embroidery machine is then able to quickly stitch your design onto whatever fabric you’ve chosen. The result is a durable embellishment to any fabric promotional item.

Fabrics:

While hats are our most popular sellers, our embroidery services can be done on almost any fabric!

Quantity:

Because of the time needed to format each design for embroidery, we require a 10 piece minimum on all embroidery orders.

Pricing:

We require a $75 upfront fee to format your design. After that, pricing is dependent on what type of product you’d like embroidered.

Timing:

We ask that you allow 3 weeks for embroidery orders.
